Living Classroom utilizes school gardens and outdoor spaces to engage students in hands-on learning in science, math, and social studies. The lessons are aligned with Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards and are designed to hold student interest and improve lesson retention through hands-on experience. In addition to reinforcing what’s taught in the classroom, the nature-based lessons promote environmental literacy and stewardship as well as healthy eating habits.

Living Classroom is seeking volunteers to teach our lessons and help care for our school gardens. No experience necessary as we teach you everything you need to know! Once trained, we ask our volunteers to teach 4 lessons a month during the school year. Garden volunteers can work in the gardens during or after school hours. Visit our website for information on our Docent Training Program. If you don’t have time to volunteer as a docent or garden helper, you can volunteer to help in your child’s class when they have a Living Classroom lesson (sign-up through your child’s teacher). All help is appreciated!
