Learn to ride a horse! The Westwind Community Barn in Los Altos Hills offers a three day Holiday Riding Camp 12/26-29. It runs from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Each rider is assigned to his or her horse for the week, resembling the responsibility and fun of horse ownership. We offer quality ponies, pony club curriculum, a low student to instructor/assistant ratio in a park-like setting, with horse games and a horse show on the last day of camp. Community Menorah Lighting The annual Community Menorah Lighting featuring Downtown Los Altos’ first ever Great Big Chanukah Gelt drop is coming on Sunday, December 15 from 5-6pm in Veterans Community Plaza! Collect as much chocolate gelt as you can, as it “rains” down from above! Have fun with Chanukah crafts and treats for everyone, and then join in the Community Menorah Lighting Ceremony! Followed by the Great Gelt Drop!! Parking Lot Duty The parking lot is closed until Wednesday, December 27th. To ensure the safety of students getting in and out of cars during this time, each grade is assigned one week of parking lot duty both before and after school, according to the schedule below. Parent volunteers are asked to put on orange vests found on the sidewalk along the drop-off/pick-up lane, and to assist children in safely getting in and out of the cars. We are looking for vendors to make this a successful fundraiser and community builder for our school! If you enjoy making artisan crafts or baking, and would like the opportunity to sell them to our students, staff and parents, then we would love to have you at our boutique! If you are interested in being a vendor please email and let me know what you will be selling. Vendors can sell anything from art and jewelry to desserts to clothing. Space is limited. LASD joins schools around the world to celebrate Computer Science Education Week December 4-8. This annual event is dedicated to inspiring K-12 students to take an interest in computer science. Our students participate in the Hour of Code program organized by Code.org as well as continue the many amazing Computer Science programs available to them throughout the year. Know a Child Who Loves to Sing? Cantabile Youth Singers Invites You to Come Sing With Us! Registration and auditions for grades K-9 happening now. Registration for our Winter/Spring 2018 semester opens Nov 15, 2017. Cantabile is a community-based children’s chorus serving the greater Silicon Valley area, striving to bring the highest quality musical education in a choral setting to young singers from ages 4 years to 18. With our carefully planned and innovative curriculum, we build a foundation in choral musicianship, music literacy, and appreciation, while also fostering a caring and supportive family-atmosphere for friendships to grow for our singers. We offer a number of after-school rehearsal options, each featuring a wide range of musical activities, including singing, movement, improvisation, instrumental activities, and musicianship. Singers in grades 3-9 should call today to arrange an audition, while singers in grades K-2 may register for a class beginning November 15. LPGA*USGA Girls Golf Clinic at Stanford Golf Course LPGA*USGA Girls Golf Experience is a fun way to introduce the game of golf, or to help advanced junior golfers improve their skills. This program is a national initiative aimed at bringing more girls to the game of golf. Golf professionals and courses across the country show their commitment by hosting golf clinics and special events for girls in their communities. Events feature fun themes that give girls the chance to unleash their inner rockstar or showcase their skills by competing in different challenges. This LPGA*USGA Girls Golf kickoff is a free event. Become a LIVING CLASSROOM docent... share your love of nature with kids! It's time to build bird nests, make yummy soup from the veggies we harvest from our school gardens, discover symmetry inside fruit, and make natural dyes from plants! If you like all those things and more, please consider becoming a Living Classroom docent! LIving Classroom is looking for docents to help deliver hands-on garden-based lessons to the students of the Los Altos School District. No experience necessary as we provide all the training needed!
