Hot Lunch Update! Thursday, 8/30, 8:30 am in the Teacher Lounge - Hot Lunch Taskforce meeting. Please bring your ideas for improving hot lunch. All parents welcome. If you are unable to attend, please send your comments and suggestions to gbhotlunch@gmail.com. The hot lunch team desperately needs more volunteers! If your child loves pizza on Friday, or if YOU love not having to pack lunches, please be aware that the GB hot lunch program is in danger of being eliminated because we do not have enough parents to staff it. If you are looking for a fun, creative and totally NEW activity for after school, check out Toy Design offered by DesignX, coming to Gardner Bullis for the first time this Fall on Wednesday afternoons. Kids will learn the basics of designing, pattern making, hand and machine sewing and embellishing while learning to make THEIR own funny, furry or fiery plush creation happen. Volunteer as a Los Altos Art Docent! We are looking for new volunteers to join us! Come learn more about the Los Altos Art Docent Program at an Informational Coffee on Wednesday, August 23rd from 10:00 to 11:30am at the LASD Board Room 201 located at 201 Covington Road, Los Altos. Art education is about more than showing students how to draw a tree or recognize a Van Gogh. It’s about preparing young minds for an entire future of invaluable experiences. Our volunteers come from a wide variety of backgrounds but share a love of art and working with children. In return for a couple of hours of your time each week, docents benefit from an ongoing education program, field trips, social activities and an incredible sense of community. |

Solar Installation Project Meeting The district is installing solar shade structures at each of its schools. The structures will be installed in school parking lots. Construction will begin September 18th and continue for 8 - 10 weeks. The parking lot will be CLOSED. Installing the solar structures will enable us to save hundreds of thousands of dollars each year and reduce our carbon footprint, equivalent to 3.5 million pounds of CO2 annually. Please refer to the Solar Project on the district website for updated communications and information. |
Become a LIVING CLASSROOM docent... share your love of nature with kids! It's time to harvest seeds from heirloom tomatoes, plant our winter wheat and veggies, search the schoolyard for animal homes, and learning about Native California Indian uses of plants! If you like all those things and more, please consider becoming a Living Classroom docent! Living Classroom is looking for docents to help deliver hands-on garden-based lessons to the students of the Los Altos School District. No experience necessary as we provide all the training needed! Our Fall Docent Training will take place on Monday mornings from 9am-Noon from Sep. 11th – Oct. 16th (please see our Fall training flyer for locations). Want to learn more about our program? MVLA Parent Education Speaker Series The MVLA Parent Education Speaker Series is excited to announce our speaker line-up for the 2017-2018 school year. Solar Fest We would like to invite you to our own LASD Solar Fest right here at Gardner Bullis. The viewing will begin at 10:00 am and last approximately 30 minutes, which just happens to coincide with our recess time. The district will be providing certified protected viewing glasses for all students and staff. Please speak with your child about the importance of following instructions and of keeping their eclipse glasses on at all times during this event. Here is an excellent NASA resource to learn more about solar eclipse and safe viewing tips. An indoor recess, including live-streaming of the solar eclipse event, will be provided for students. |

Details and registration information are included in each of the individual class flyers. Additional programs will be posted to the website once we receive registration details from our after school vendors. Special note about the Hidden Villa program - This class is NOT at school; it takes place at Hidden Villa. CHESS CLUB at Bullis will meet at lunchtime on Fridays in the GB flex room, led by the best U.S.C.F. certified chess Pro's in the biz! Students can eat lunch during lesson times followed by structured but very FUN practice on tournament chess sets, we will provide a PIZZA-FEAST every Friday as well in Chess Class so stop by and check us out! Our program has run at various LASD schools. It's more than Pilates - throughout the session students learn basic anatomy, body alignment with respect to gravity. Most of all, we have fun together. Hot Lunch Hello everyone and Happy New School Year! There is such good news to share with you about our Hot Lunch Program. First of all, we would like to present our mission statement: We value healthy food, fresh ingredients and a diverse menu. We aim to teach the children smart eating habits and proper behavior during lunchtime. Hot Lunch at Gardner Bullis is more than just serving food. Second, Gardner Bullis has partnered with BOONLI (formerly orderlunches.com) to provide a secure, fast, and easy-to-use online ordering system that allows parents and guardians to view our lunch menu, order, prepay and manage student lunches from their smartphone, tablet, or computer. Hot lunches start the first day of school for 1st through 6th graders (Kinders start 9/11). If you want hot lunch for the first week of school, the order deadline is Sunday, 8/13 at midnight (TONIGHT!) Please take the time to order lunch for the timeframes that work for your student. You are able to print a menu from now through November 4th, 2017. New Parents 1) Go To: pastamarket.boonli.com - (please bookmark this page) 2) Click on Register: Password is: bullis183, add account, profile(s) information 3) Sign In with your username & password Returning Parents 1) Go To pastamarket.boonli.com- (please bookmark this page) 2) Sign In with your username & password 3) Choose student that needs location, add their grade for the new school year & click “update profile” 4) If a student has graduated, select their name & click “remove profile” 5) Once all profiles are updated you can begin placing orders Lastly, if your child forgets lunch they will be offered a healthy brown bag lunch at the cost of $5.00. There will be four types of brown bag lunches available: Kindergarten, Regular, Vegetarian, and Gluten Free. All bags contain at least one protein. (Cheese sticks and milk will also be available if students want it.) Billing for the brown bag lunches will be charged quarterly and are to be paid to the PTA. Thank you for participating in our school lunch program! We can’t wait to see the kids again!
