LASD & LAEF are excited to kick off the first ever STEM Days at both Egan and Blach schools this spring. STEM pervades every part of life. STEM education creates critical thinkers, increases science literacy, and enables the next generation of innovators. Exposing our students to different aspects of careers in the STEM fields could inspire and spark a passion in learning. We are looking for parents, grandparents or anyone in our community who would like to share their knowledge. $20K Matching Challenge Met! Did you notice the growing arrow on the LAEF sign in front of our school? LAEF is pleased to announce that we just reached the $3.3M mark in donations! Thank you to the 57 families who contributed $24,774 to meet our $20,000 Matching Grant. With $386,690 to go to reach $3.7M, every dollar counts. That’s why we’re counting on another 224 families to donate at www.LAEFonline.org. Become a LIVING CLASSROOM docent... share your love of nature with kids! It's time to plant tomatoes, dissect flowers, explore the plants used by the Ancient Civilizations, and harvest and make yummy pretzels from the winter wheat the students planted last Fall! Living Classroom is looking for docents to help deliver hands-on garden-based lessons to the students of the Los Altos School District. No experience necessary as we provide all the training needed! Our Spring Docent Training will take place Monday mornings in March from 9 - Noon on 3/6, 3/13, 3/20 and 3/27. Wear a Hat and Support Heavenly Hats Please join the Gardner Student Council for a fun way to help out the Cancer Society. On Friday, March 10, everyone is allowed to wear their favorite hat is exchange for a minimum of $1 (more accepted) donation to the Heavenly Hats Foundation. We encourage the students to use their own money if they have any. So break open those piggy banks for a worthy cause. JUNIORS OLYMPICS! Every 4th, 5th and 6th grader in Los Altos School District is invited to participate in the Annual Junior Olympics, coming on April 29! This event brings together the seven LASD elementary schools for a friendly track & field competition, in which everyone is encouraged to strive for their personal best and cheer on their classmates as they compete. The kids have fun marching with their school in opening ceremonies, cheering for their classmates during events, and doing their best after 7 weeks of training. The following guidelines are indications that you should keep him/her home. In this way, you are helping to control the spread of colds, flu, and other contagious illnesses. Keep your child at home when he/she has any of the following symptoms: • Fever of 99.6 or higher • Vomiting or Diarrhea • Sore throat or trouble swallowing • Rash or unusual sores or spots • Generalized muscle aches and pains • Unusually red, crusted or burning eyes • Chills • Nausea • Coughing, sneezing, and/or runny nose • Headache • Wheezing or trouble breathing • Head Lice You need to keep your child home until he/she has been symptom free without medication for 24 hours. Also, NOTIFY THE OFFICE IMMEDIATELY if your child is exposed to or contracts chicken pox, mumps or measles or whooping cough (pertussis). BookQuest Celebration on Thursday - March 2nd, 2017 at 6-8 PM (in Gardner Bullis Multi) Please come celebrate what our BookQuest authors have accomplished! Published books will be on display (authors can take books home after the event) and Gennifer Choldenko (author of the Al Capone series, Chasing Secrets, A Giant Crush, and more) will be our guest speaker. We will have a raffle for our student authors. Light refreshments will be served. Please, note that thanks to our school community, the BookQuest program raised $630 for a charitable cause.
